Huge, impressive and instantly recognisable: LEGO® The Mighty Bowser (71411) is one of the most striking sets in the LEGO Super Mario™ theme. The King of Koopa consists of no fewer than 2,807 pieces and, with its movable head, claws and fireball shooter, is much more than just a display model.
Production of this set has now ceased. As a result, new, unopened copies are becoming increasingly difficult to find and market prices are slowly starting to rise. So if you’d still like to add The Mighty Bowser to your collection, you’d be wise not to wait too long.
LEGO® The Mighty Bowser was released in October 2022 as an extensive 18+ set for adult builders and Super Mario fans. The model is approximately 32 centimetres high, 41 centimetres wide and 28 centimetres deep. This makes Bowser not only literally a large set, but also a real eye-catcher.
The designers have done an excellent job of translating his iconic appearance into LEGO bricks. From the bright green shell and white spikes to his horns, eyebrows and sharp teeth: virtually every detail is recognisable from the Super Mario games.
The building techniques are also impressive. Inside the model is a sturdy mechanism that allows you to move Bowser’s head and neck. His mouth can open and close, whilst his arms, hands, fingers, legs and tail can be positioned in various ways. And as if that weren’t enough, Bowser can actually shoot a fireball from his mouth.
The set includes a stone battle platform with two towers that Bowser can knock over. There’s also a hidden POW brick incorporated beneath the platform. Thanks to the action tag, you can combine the set with an interactive LEGO® Mario™, LEGO® Luigi™ or LEGO® Peach™ figure.
That said, most collectors will probably give Bowser a prominent place in their home. Thanks to his size, expressive face and various posing options, he looks impressive from almost every angle. It’s a set that immediately catches the eye, even of people who aren’t into LEGO.
LEGO sets are only produced for a limited period. When a set is discontinued, no new copies are restocked. Shops sell their remaining stock, after which collectors have to rely on the second-hand market and private sellers.
This process has now begun for The Mighty Bowser. The original recommended retail price was €269.99. International market data shows that new, sealed copies are now regularly valued above that original retail price. The increase is gradual for the time being, but supply is expected to decline further.
Of course, a future price rise is never guaranteed. Nevertheless, this set has a number of features that make it appealing to collectors:
It is precisely this combination of recognisability, size and scarcity that ensures interest in it won’t simply fade away.
Anyone who buys The Mighty Bowser faces a difficult choice. Do you leave the box unopened to keep the set in perfect collector’s condition, or do you build the King of Koopa and give him the place he deserves?
For many fans, the temptation to open the box will be too great. With 2,807 pieces, the set offers an extensive building project, after which you’ll have one of the most characterful LEGO Super Mario models ever. Collectors primarily concerned with retaining value may opt for an unopened copy with a box in good condition.
Whichever choice you make: when buying a second-hand set, always check that the instructions, fireball elements, action tag and all parts of the battle platform are included. A complete set is generally more attractive than a model with missing parts.
Have you already built The Mighty Bowser? If so, you can make the model even more eye-catching with a special lighting set for LEGO® 71411. This ensures that his fireball, the battle platform and various details really stand out, even in the dark.
Is a part missing, or do you want to get creative with the design yourself? Then take a look at the parts list for LEGO® set 71411. This makes it easy to check which LEGO parts belong in the set.
LEGO® The Mighty Bowser (71411) combines a challenging building experience with clever features and a healthy dose of Nintendo nostalgia. Now that the set is no longer in production, it is slowly transforming from a standard retail product into a sought-after collector’s item.
Prices are already rising slightly and new copies are becoming increasingly scarce. Do you still want to build Bowser, display him or add him to your collection unopened? Then this is probably not the time to sit back and wait quietly in his castle.
