There is no set rule for the shape of a shield. Different shields are used by different warriors. Sometimes the shield must meet the specific requirements of use in combination with other weapons. Sometimes the heraldry on the shield is the reason for the shape. But sometimes it's just a nice shape. Like this egg-shaped shield?
This light gray shield without print (no decorative heraldry) fits so much with LEGO knight, but also does not look out of place as armor for the LEGO ninjas.
But who says that this part should be a coat of arms of a minifigure!? For example, this shield can also be a nice decoration on a monumental LEGO building! Provide a clip and you attach this shield wherever you want. LEGO wouldn't be lego if you can't also come up with another application for this part.
