Discover the world of LEGO® GBC

Anyone who has ever seen tiny balls rolling through lifts, ramps, spirals and clever moving mechanisms at a LEGO fair, YouTube or at a fan event has probably seen a LEGO GBC. A GBC, in full Great Ball Contraption, is an engineering LEGO machine that continuously moves balls through different modules.

At our partner and GBC specialist PV-Productions, you will find everything you need to get started with LEGO GBC yourself. Think PV-Productions GBC Balls, PV-Productions building instructions, GBC Funnels, GBC Loopings and of course suitable LEGO sets as a basis for your own Great Ball Contraption.

What is a LEGO GBC?

A LEGO GBC is a structure that allows LEGO balls to move through a continuous route. Each module has its own function. One module lifts balls up, another lets them roll, spin, fall or pass them on to the next part.

It is precisely this combination of technology, creativity and movement that makes GBC building so interesting. You immediately see how gears, axles, lifts, tracks and guides work together. This makes a Great Ball Contraption not only fun to watch, but also educational to build.

Some builders start with one small module. Other fans link multiple modules together to form large layouts in which dozens of balls move simultaneously. The result is a continuously moving LEGO machine full of technique, rhythm and creativity.

PV-Productions GBC building instructions

PV-Productions' GBC designs are created as alternative building models. This means you can convert an existing LEGO Technic set into a fully functioning Great Ball Contraption. So with the right building instructions, you can give a set a completely new function.

That makes GBC building accessible. You don't have to immediately design a complicated mechanism yourself. With a suitable LEGO set, PV-Productions building instructions and good GBC Balls, you can quickly build a moving module with lifts, tracks and technical mechanisms.

What do you need to get started with LEGO GBC?

Getting started with a LEGO GBC is easier than it looks. In most cases, you need three things: a PV-Productions-compatible LEGO set, the matching building instructions and good GBC Balls.

The GBC Balls are the cargo of any Great Ball Contraption. They move through lifts, drops, conveyors, funnels, loopings and other technical effects. A well-functioning GBC depends heavily on smooth ball flow. The balls must move reliably, without getting stuck or unexpectedly jumping out of the track.

The PV-Productions GBC Balls are available in various designs. You can choose from classic orange basketballs, sleek white footballs and special Glow in the Dark balls. All variants are designed for smooth and reliable use in GBC modules. ToyPro's standard LEGO® footballs can also be used

Glow in the Dark GBC Balls for extra effect

The Glow in the Dark GBC Balls provide an eye-catching effect in dark rooms. When you combine them with UV lighting, your GBC module becomes even more spectacular. The moving balls then light up as they roll through lifts, tracks, funnels and loopings.

These luminous GBC Balls are ideal for trade fair layouts, demonstrations or an eye-catching LEGO display at home. Especially for larger layouts, they add extra depth, movement and experience.

More movement with GBC Funnels

With the GBC Funnels from PV-Productions, you add a fluid spiral movement to your LEGO GBC. The balls rotate smoothly in the funnel before falling down through the middle. This creates a recognisable and fascinating effect within every Great Ball Contraption.

The funnels are specially designed to be fully compatible with LEGO parts. At the same time, they offer shapes that are difficult to recreate with standard LEGO bricks. This makes them ideal as visual focal points, technical upgrades or striking transitions between modules.

GBC Funnel XL

The GBC Funnel XL is the largest funnel in the series. Due to its generous size, it can handle several GBC Balls simultaneously. The balls keep spinning for a long time before finally disappearing through the middle.

The shape also fits well with LEGO banana gears. This makes the GBC Funnel XL not only beautiful to look at, but also practical when building larger and stable GBC modules.

GBC Funnel Gravity Well

The GBC Funnel Gravity Well has a unique shape that playfully influences the trajectory of the GBC Balls. The balls make unexpected turns and follow a less predictable route than in a standard funnel.

In terms of size, this funnel sits between the GBC Funnel XL and the GBC Funnel Turbo Spin. As a result, it offers a good balance between capacity and speed. This makes the Gravity Well suitable for builders who want to add more variety and dynamics to their GBC layout.

GBC Funnel Turbo Spin

The GBC Funnel Turbo Spin is designed for fast and energetic movements. The inner shape directs the incoming GBC Balls to maintain extra speed. This creates a compact, fast and lively effect.

Because this funnel is the smallest and lightest variant, you can easily incorporate it into smaller GBC modules. Fewer supporting parts are needed. This also makes it suitable for higher or more compact areas in a structure.

Why add GBC Funnels to your LEGO GBC?

GBC Funnels are perfect when you want to give your LEGO GBC more appearance, movement and interaction. They work well as a visual focal point, provide smooth movement with multiple balls and bring more dynamism to your layout.

Many PV-Productions building instructions use GBC Funnels as an optional upgrade. In addition, they are popular with builders who design their own custom GBC modules. Check out the available

Why choose GBC Loopings?

GBC Loopings are ideal when you want to add fast action, a striking visual effect and a real eye-catcher to your GBC. They instantly create a wow effect, especially when the balls move through the looping at the right speed.

Like GBC Funnels, GBC Loopings are used as optional parts in some PV-Productions building instructions. In addition, you can incorporate them into entirely your own GBC designs. Tips for new GBC builders

Start simple when building a LEGO GBC for the first time. One or two modules are often enough to learn how speed, weight, slope and timing affect ball flow. Small adjustments can already make a big difference.

Test your construction regularly while building. Pay close attention to places where balls slow down, get stuck or bounce too hard. A reliable GBC needs a constant flow. Each module must transfer the balls neatly to the next component.

In addition, think in systems. A lift, funnel, looping or track does not work in isolation, but as part of the complete route. When all parts fit together well, it creates a smoothly running Great Ball Contraption that keeps you watching.
